An Overview

A front-end developer builds the front-end portion of websites and web applications—that is, the part that users actually see and interact with. A front-end developer creates websites and applications using web languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that allow users to access and interact with the site or app.

A front end developer has one general responsibility: to ensure that website visitors can easily interact with the page. They do this through the combination of design, technology and programming to code a website's appearance, as well as taking care of debugging.

The main objective of front-end development is to ensure that everything a user sees and interacts with on the screen is understandable, intuitive, and responsive. Moreover, a front-end developer should ensure that all data comes up correctly in different browsers, operating systems, and on all devices.

Development Skills

HTML and CSS are the foundational skills required for most jobs in the tech sector. These are pretty basic and each job description of a front end developer will have these as a requirement. HTML and CSS are like the ABCs of front end development, necessary to learn the language of website development.

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language which is used to create web pages. For website development, HTML is a critical skill. Therefore, it is a basic requirement for a front end developer.

CSS as a stand alone skill may not be as beneficial for career growth and for attaining versatility in your portfolio. One of the drawbacks of only using CSS is that you can’t define variables, functions, or perform arithmetic operations.

When a project grows or becomes more complex, using just CSS may become redundant and repetitive as codes will have to be written every time, which is time-consuming. CSS Preprocessing takes care of this limitation and any smart front end developer would definitely want this skill in his/her toolkit.

CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is the language used to make a digital document alive and communicable. A web page is created with HTML first and then CSS is used to put elements such as layout, format, colour, fonts etc on the page. It makes the web page interactive and presentable. you create with HTML.

Another must-have skill for any front end developer is JavaScript (JS). Where HTML is a markup language and CSS enhances the web page, Javascript is a programming language that makes the website functional.

HTML and CSS are used to make websites that look fairly simple but most websites today are expected to have enhanced interactive features such as audio, video, animations etc. In such cases, Javascript comes in handy.

4. Vue.js

Vue for Web App Development. Vue. js is a front-end framework that experienced developers may use without needing to have a thorough command of many different programming languages. If you know the fundamentals of CSS, HTML, and Javascript, you can create fantastic, convenient, and thorough web apps.

Vue (pronounced /vjuː/, like view) is a JavaScript framework for building user interfaces. It builds on top of standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and provides a declarative and component-based programming model that helps you efficiently develop user interfaces, be they simple or complex.

5. jQuery

jQuery greatly simplifies JavaScript programming. It is the most popular library on the web today. It's a library of JavaScript functions that make it easy for webpage developers to do common tasks-- like manipulating the webpage, responding to user events, getting data from their servers, building effects and animations, and much more.

jQuery is a fast, small, and feature-rich JavaScript library. It makes things like HTML document traversal and manipulation, event handling, animation, and Ajax much simpler with an easy-to-use API that works across a multitude of browsers. With a combination of versatility and extensibility, jQuery has changed the way that millions of people write JavaScript.

6. React

React Native combines the best parts of native development with React, a best-in-class JavaScript library for building user interfaces.

You can use React Native today in your existing Android and iOS projects or you can create a whole new app from scratch. React is used to build single-page applications. React allows us to create reusable UI components.

7. Angular

Angular is a development platform for building mobile and desktop web applications using Typescript/JavaScript and other languages.Angular is cross-platform, fast, scalable, has incredible tooling, and is loved by millions.

Angular is a platform and framework for building single-page client applications using HTML and TypeScript. Angular is written in TypeScript. It implements core and optional functionality as a set of TypeScript libraries that you import into your applications.
