What is cloud technology?

Cloud computing delivers services such as data storage, security, networking, software applications, and business intelligence via the internet on a subscription basis.

There are three different types of cloud deployment: public, private, and hybrid. Many companies choose more than one approach and set up a multi-cloud environment.

1. Public cloud:

With a public cloud, services are delivered to customers over a network that’s available for usage by the provider’s clients. Public clouds offer efficiency and affordability and are often multi-tenant – meaning the provider runs your service in a shared environment.

2. Private cloud:

With a private cloud, services are maintained on a private network protected by a firewall. You can build a private cloud within your own data center – or subscribe to one hosted by a vendor. Private clouds offer the most security and control.

3. Hybrid cloud:

A hybrid cloud is a combination of public cloud, private cloud, and on-premise infrastructure. Hybrid clouds let you keep sensitive information in a traditional data center or private cloud while taking advantage of public cloud resources.

Platforms

1. AWS ( Amazon Web Services )

Amazon Web Services, Inc. is a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis. These cloud computing web services provide distributed computing processing capacity and software tools via AWS server farms. AWS can be used to store critical data. It offers multiple types of storage to choose from, allowing businesses to make their own decisions based on their needs. It can be used for file indexing and storage, archiving for a longer time, high-performance writing or reading, and running critical business applications.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally. Amazon web service is an online platform that provides scalable and cost-effective cloud computing solutions. AWS is a broadly adopted cloud platform that offers several on-demand operations like compute power, database storage, content delivery, etc., to help corporates scale and grow.

AWS is designed to allow application providers, ISVs, and vendors to quickly and securely host your applications – whether an existing application or a new SaaS-based application. You can use the AWS Management Console or well-documented web services APIs to access AWS's application hosting platform.

AWS is a fairly easy platform to learn and use. The platform has a variety of features and tools that make it easy to get up and running, and the support and community resources are plentiful. While there are some complexities to understanding how AWS works, the platform is well designed and easy to navigate.AWS is the cloud leader. When it comes to hosting VM instances, it optimizes every step.

2. Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure, often referred to as Azure, is a cloud computing platform operated by Microsoft for application management via Microsoft-managed data centers. The Azure cloud platform is more than 200 products and cloud services designed to help you bring new solutions to life—to solve today’s challenges and create the future. Build, run and manage applications across multiple clouds, on-premises and at the edge, with the tools and frameworks of your choice.

Microsoft Azure, formerly known as Windows Azure, is Microsoft's public cloud computing platform. It provides a broad range of cloud services, including compute, analytics, storage and networking. Users can pick and choose from these services to develop and scale new applications or run existing applications in the public cloud.
Azure is also commonly used as a platform for hosting databases in the cloud. Microsoft offers serverless relational databases such as Azure SQL and non-relational databases such as NoSQL.

The Azure platform aims to help businesses manage challenges and meet their organizational goals. It offers tools that support all industries -- including e-commerce, finance and a variety of Fortune 500 companies -- and is compatible with open source technologies. This gives users the flexibility to use their preferred tools and technologies. In addition, Azure offers four different forms of cloud computing: infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and serverless functions.

Some organizations use Azure for data backup and disaster recovery. Organizations can also use Azure as an alternative to their own data center storage. Public clouds have proven ideal for high-volume, short-duration tasks such as data analytics. Organizations can use almost limitless storage capacity in the cloud to store vast data sets, perform analytics tasks and then dismiss data as it ages or becomes unusable -- all without procuring or deploying hardware in a local data center.

Azure was built by and for developers. Visual Studio is one of the most popular IDEs. And with the acquisition of GitHub, Microsoft continues to focus on how developers build.

3. Google Cloud Platform

Google Cloud Platform, offered by Google, is a suite of cloud computing services that runs on the same infrastructure that Google uses internally for its end-user products, such as Google Search, Gmail, Google Drive, and YouTube. Alongside a set of management tools, it provides a series of modular cloud services including computing, data storage, data analytics and machine learning. Google Cloud provides three main services for different types of storage: Persistent Disks for block storage, Filestore for network file storage, and Cloud Storage for object storage.

Google Cloud Platform provides infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, and serverless computing environments. Google Cloud consists of a set of physical assets, such as computers and hard disk drives, and virtual resources, such as virtual machines (VMs), that are contained in Google's data centers around the globe. Each data center location is in a region. It provides reliable and highly scalable Google cloud computing services to its users. These services help clients compute and store data, and help developers build, test, and deploy apps.

Google Cloud's global network of data centers—among the world's most secure and energy-efficient facilities—run your services 24x7 with the highest possible speed and reliability. Our data centers employ layered security and built-in redundancy and fault tolerance, and strictly limit employee access. Google Cloud is a suite of public cloud computing services offered by Google. The platform includes a range of hosted services for compute, storage and application development that run on Google hardware.

GCP focuses more on deploying software. It offers integrations for building but is often used to run components and microservices. The services GCP offers focus on containers, big data, and machine learning. This makes sense considering GCP was originally created to handle the distributed software orchestration necessary for Google. What GCP does have is alternative custom instances and pricing models that can give certain customers a better offer.
